Why Steaks at BLU?
BLU Seafood & Steaks is still rooted in the coast, but the story of northern Mexico has always included fire.
Sonora has a centuries old cattle and ranching tradition. Cattle were introduced to the region during the Spanish colonial period, adapted well to Sonora’s vast, arid landscape, and over time beef became one of the defining ingredients of Sonoran cooking. By the late 1700s, cattle raising was already widespread throughout the region.
And in Sonora, carne asada is more than simply grilled beef, it is part of the culture. Cooking meat over live fire, gathering around the grill, serving it with tortillas, chiles, salsa and grilled onions has long been a tradition that brings people together. Sonora’s own tourism authority describes carne asada as an emblematic dish and a gastronomic ritual centered around family and community.
That history made adding steaks to BLU feel natural.
Our seafood reflects the flavors of the coast, while our steaks introduce another side of the region, the ranches, the open flame and the tradition of gathering around good food.

BLU started with the sea.
What began as a neighborhood seafood restaurant was built around fresh coastal flavors, relaxed hospitality, and the kind of place people could return to again and again. Seafood was always at the heart of BLU—but over time, the food, the guests, and the experience began to evolve.
The kitchen became more ambitious. The menu grew beyond the coast, introducing premium steaks, open-fire cooking, richer flavors, and dishes made for a longer evening around the table. Cocktails became more intentional. The atmosphere became warmer and more refined. BLU was growing into something bigger than its original identity.
That evolution became BLU Seafood & Steaks.
We kept what made BLU recognizable, the coastal spirit, welcoming energy, and love of seafood, and added a new side of the experience: fire, premium cuts, craftsmanship, and a little more sophistication.
